1. There are a lot of things expected of men and women in 2012 but there are some differences between the two different genders. I would say that by women, men are expected to work more and make the money for their family and do the so-called "dirty work". Even though that sounds sexiest and is not as much like that today as it used to be, there is still a sense that this still occurs. Although, women have taken larger roles in recent years with new high-authority jobs. On the other hand, men expect women to cook, clean, and take care of the things they don't want to do. A good meal is at the top of the list though. Men are perceived as superior to women these days. The difficulties of men are being expected to do many hard "odd jobs" like fixing things around the house that they don't want to do. The difficulties of women are that they have to produce children which has to be very painful, luckily men don't have to do this. Advantages of being a man includes that they can take charge in certain situations and there are a lot more but it would take up too much room to list them all. Advantages of being a women are that they get more sympathy and most people wouldn't try to hurt a women where as men encounter more physical altercations. Stereotypes of women are that they are only good enough to be a stay at home mother and take care of children and make food. Stereotypes of men are that they are hot heads and they only care about drinking beer and watching sports, or something like that. Current gender roles are changing nowadays which is good but some things are still the same between men and women and how and what people think of them as opposed to the other sex.
2. For one of the questions from the last blog response, the question about whether or not your would watch a Canadian Football game if you knew that in the future you were destined to live a life of being a CFL fanatic, I think that Carlos would watch the game. Based in his character in the book and the fact that he is a boy, I believe he would most definitely tune into the game. It wouldn't be a big deal since it is just one game so he would probably do it. Carlos would probably answer without hesitating because watching sports is fun. He would want to get a taste of his future.
Mike, I completely agree with your analysis of the roles of Men and Women today. The men are definitely associated with the dirty work, and in return women are to do the load of the house work. In your response at the end, you say that gender roles are changing, so in what ways do you see them changing and are they positive or negative for society? I like how you used the CFL question and I do agree that Carlos would enjoy the game. I enjoyed your response and seeing how similar ours were.
ReplyDeleteMike, I am sick of seeing all the guys in the class say that all women are perceived to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. It is the sad reality that all women are all perceived to be. I do not think that it is true at all. I am not trying to be negative towards your comment, but I will tell you why it is not true. We live in an age where women have gained their rights, they have come a long way and some may even believe that women have started to dominate the business world. And i'll tell you, watching my parents, that they both share the word load around the house, and that is probably how most households work these days. We are starting to live in an age where women will be coming home to the man cooking for her.
ReplyDeleteHey mike, nice post! Firstly, i agree with you about how carlos would watch the CFL. He seems like a very masculine character and i believe he would watch the game as well. He was so interested in sofia's son just because he was a boy and this shows how sexist he is. Also, i agree with you that men tend to do more of the dirty work nowadays. In most households, you dont see a woman cutting down a tree or something similar to that. I dont really like how you said i is an advantage for woman because they recieve more sympathy. That is kind of sexist how just because they are a woman, that they will recieve more. Overall good post, keep up the good work!
